Everyone online needs to protect their computer system. Not just from Viruses, other things too. Ad ware is a big problem and can slow your computer way down. I have seen some computers that were so loaded up with ads and pop-ups that it just became totally useless. I told them if it was mine I would just format the hard drive and start all over. The first thing that you can do to stop this from happening is to remove Microsoft's virtual machine in internet explorer. This is for Java scripts, doing this one thing has stopped 99% of this stuff getting installed on my computer without me knowing about it. I still want my computer to have Java software, so to do this I go to Sun micro systems and get the needed Java software there and Im done. So now I have Java software and my computer is safe from most of that kind of ad ware. Also I did all of this free. You will still need a program to keep your computer from getting spy ware and other bad things, I strongly suggest WebRoot software for this, Spy Sweeper. $20 for a year of protection will be the best money you will ever spend. If you have ever had a problem of this type, then I don't need to tell you how important this is. When your computer is down, you are down until you get it fixed. I know this for a fact and this helped me get back to work. I also use Avast anit-virus and I have found it to be very thorough and free for home use. Just a note here: Never try to have more than one anti-virus or anti-spy program installed on your computer at one time. That will give you a problem and can damage your system. Also you must use your common sense too. If something tries to install on your system and your program pops up and tells you about it, don't allow it to install, UNLESS you are doing it and you know what it is that is being installed. If you just say yes go ahead to something that you don't know about, the bug is in and well that is not the programs fault, it would be yours at that point. The program did its job by telling you about it, then you make the right choice, yes go ahead or stop. So if you are installing a program yourself it will pop up a warning just the same and you will just need to tell it "yes" and allow it. On the other end if you go to some website or open some E-mail and you get a warning that something is trying to do something to your computer, don't do it unless you know what it is first (be sure you know) |
